The Seven Regions of the 108 Divya Desam
The 108 Divya Desams are traditionally grouped into seven regions, from the Kaveri delta of Chola Nadu to the Himalayan shrines of Vada Nadu and the two celestial abodes that cannot be visited on Earth.
Chola Nadu
The Kaveri delta heartland (Srirangam, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai and the eleven temples of Thirunangur), home to the largest concentration of Divya Desams.
Nadu Nadu
The smallest of the seven regions: two Divya Desams at Thiruvahindrapuram and Thirukkoyilur, in the transitional country between Chola Nadu and Thondai Nadu.
Thondai Nadu
Northern Tamil Nadu around Kanchipuram and Chennai: fifteen Divya Desams inside Kanchipuram town alone, plus Chennai, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Vellore district temples.
Malai Nadu
Kerala's eleven Divya Desams plus Thiruvattaru and Thiruvanparisaram in Kanyakumari: traditionally grouped as the former Venad/Travancore country.
Pandya Nadu
Southern Tamil Nadu from Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi (including the nine Nava Tirupathi shrines) to Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram and Pudukkottai.
Vada Nadu
Divya Desams north of Tamil Nadu: Ayodhya, Mathura, Dwarka, the Himalayan shrine of Badrinath, Muktinath in Nepal, and Ahobilam and Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.
Celestial
Thiruppaarkadal (the Ocean of Milk) and Thiruparamapadam (Vaikuntham): the two Divya Desams that are not on Earth and cannot be physically visited.
